This workshop will explore the emotional and psychological impact of the discovery of secrets. We will focus on life-changing secrets which have the potential to shake one’s core sense of self. Such secrets include: the discovery of a family abuser, secret adoption, secret family members, secrets surfacing after someone’s death, etc. Such discoveries have the potential to be both traumatising for clients and many experience these events as major betrayal.
This is a subject often unspoken; it parallels the hidden grief element of such discovery. Indeed, when one loses their sense of self, their beliefs, their stories, there is a tremendous grief which is often hidden because of shame. How can someone begin to grieve something that is unspeakable?
This workshop will be interactive and will include discussions on therapeutic modalities and techniques to help clients heal from wounding secrets.
